I created these illustrations on my iPad Pro and in Procreate for practice and for fun. Below is the accompanying backstory to these guys. They are partially inspired by the design of Macha’s owls from the movie The Song of the Sea and Celtic mythology.
Owls of the Oak are guardians of the forest and have dominion over the oak trees. They will work with other Forest spirits to maintain balance in nature. This very young Owl (on the left), named Glaisin (pronounced Glasheen, meaning green) is still learning his responsibilities. He is very curious about the world around him and loves learning.
On the right is Ealga (ale-ga, meaning noble or brave). She is the Matriarch of the Owls of the Oak and has lived many, many years. Like the trees they guard, Owls of the Oak experience life in seasons. Ealga is in the Autumn of her life, which brings wisdom, peace, and a level head. She is well respected among her fellow Owls and other Guardian species.
